1940's Italian Coral Squash Blossom Necklace
This Italian Coral Squash Blossom Necklace circa 1940 is a spectacular vintage piece sourced from a New Mexico pawn shop. This traditional Squash Blossom necklace features large pieces of genuine natural Italian Coral. 15 pieces of red coral were handpicked for character and set in naturally oxidized sterling silver. Each piece is strung on two strands of sterling silver oxidized beads to add both strength and beauty. The iconic, handmade Navajo Squash Blossom necklace is perhaps the most recognizable style of Native American jewelry. The Navajo word describing this type of necklace means "bead that spreads out." The bottom horseshoe shaped piece is called a Naja and is a good luck symbol borrowed from the Moors’ culture of Spain. This remarkable vintage necklace will make a fine addition to your collection.
