Crystal Shapes and their Meaning

The Heart

The heart has long been used as a symbol to refer to the spiritual, emotional, moral, and intellectual core of human being.  As the heart was once widely believed to be the seat of the human soul, the word heart continues to be used poetically to refer to the soul, and stylized depictions of hearts are used as prevalent symbols representing love, friendship and an openhearted attitude, which many believe heightens the metaphysical effects of the stone.

The Pyramid

Other cultures besides the Egyptians see meaning in the shape of the pyramid.  The shape itself is very strong, being primarily made of stable triangles, and it has itself become a symbol of stability.  An inverted pyramid symbolized spiritual development, as an individual became more aware of the broadness and fullness of life and spirituality.  Mathematicians and alchemists find significance in the ratios of the height to the base or the lengths of the diagonals, and they can use the pyramid to solve the problem of "squaring the circle."  Other people see the four sides as representing the four elements (wind, fire, air, and water) converging to a single point.

The Sphere

The Sphere is an ancient and universal symbol that represents unity, completeness and infinity - the whole universe. Crystal spheres are often used to increase self-awareness and a powerful mind.  Closely connected to the spiritual nature of our complete self, crystal spheres help to bring out integrity, clear thinking, and a better union of body, mind and spirit. Whether used for crystal ball gazing (scrying), aura cleansing, meditation, rituals or as adornment to a room, crystal and gemstone spheres radiate special energies that are created from the earth itself. Unlike the focused energy of a wand or egg shaped crystal, a ball emits energy in all directions equally.  These make a useful tool to perceive a complete picture (of self or situations) - moving energy around and through the entire environment.

The Obelisk

An Obelisk is a tall four-sided pillar of stone that narrows to a pyramid shape on top.  It is often representative of a Sacred Stone, a marker outlining a particular area.  Helping us to be clear regarding our spiritual beliefs or marking a particularly sacred area within which it is safe to practice our spiritual beliefs.  In addition, its strong emphatic, directional shape represents the connectivity between the earth and the sky or sun.  Today it symbolizes our instinctive reach for the unknown.
