Lovely Morenci Turquoise Oval Pendant

This is a beautiful Navajo pendant featuring Morenci Turquoise. The Morenci Mine is in southeastern Arizona. It is high to light blue in color. Morenci Turquoise has an unusual matrix of irregular black pyrite that, when polished, often looks like silver. Morenci turquoise is well known because it was one of the first American turquoises to come on the market. It is very difficult to obtain now because the Morenci mine is depleted. This Navajo artist used a beautifully hand-cut sterling silver frame around a smooth bezel that holds the stone. The silver is oxidized to show the detail. The pendant is finished with a lovely smooth bail at the top which can be worn with a thin beaded necklace or your favorite chain.
